Incorporating the Pantone 2020 Color into Your Design
At the end of every year, the experts at the Pantone Color Institute designate a “Color of the Year” that they believe will connect with the spirit of the upcoming calendar year. In addition to the fashion world, the home design industry—including the flooring industry—takes special note of the Color of the Year to help guide designs, color palettes, and patterns for future product rollouts.
Pantone found inspiration in a timeless shade for the 2020 Color of the Year, Classic Blue. Amid uncertain times, classic blue is a reassuring, calming color that we recognize and trust in our lives. In fact, Pantone describes this rich hue as “the sky at dusk”, which for many is a favorite time of each day. From home accessories and complementary pieces to new flooring and paint, here are some of our favorite ways to incorporate the Pantone 2020 Color of the Year into your design.
Use what you own
Before you go out and invest heavily in home accessories that highlight classic blue, rotate in the items you already own that feature this color! This could be anything from throw blankets and pillows that can go on your couch, decorative pieces like vases and artwork, even kitchenware that can make your table setting shine. If you are interested in investing in classic blue, new towels, drapes, the aforementioned items, or a smaller piece of furniture like an upholstered chair or ottoman will add this trending color perfectly.
Area rug additions
As we’ve mentioned before on this blog, area rugs are the perfect addition to your design scheme by offering soft comfort, visual interest, protection for your surfaces, and now, a pop of classic blue! Whether you opt for a solid classic blue rug in plush carpet or woven texture, or a geometric pattern that showcases classic blue prominently, an area rug is a great way to fit in color trends without spending too much. Also, consider creating a custom area rug with classic blue for a one-of-a-kind piece!
Previously, we highlighted patterned tile with bold and classic patterns as one of 2020’s most popular flooring trends. If you are using patterned tile as part of a room remodel in your home, consider a style with a pattern that utilizes classic blue as well. A traditional color will be a safer purchase and the fact that classic blue is trending will give you a feel that’s modern and vintage all at once.
Now that everyone has a little more time on their hands, home improvement projects are on the rise. If you have been thinking about a new paint color in one of your rooms, consider classic blue for the walls, or just a wall or two. Contrasted with bright white painted trim, this color will breathe new life into old rooms in a bold way without being too dramatic. These blue walls will look especially gorgeous playing off of light, airy hardwoods such as light brown, whitewashed, and greige.
