Hardwood Widths
Hardwood floors come in a variety of widths. Some of the narrower widths, such as 1-inch strips, have become less common over the last couple of decades. However, it seems there is almost no limit to how wide planks can be, but planks wider than 8-inch are uncommon, especially in certain species.
The narrower board widths are referred to as "strips" and the wider units as "planks".
Narrow hardwood strips will expand a room, creating the illusion that the room is larger than it actually is.
Wider planks look great in larger rooms, and can create a unique visual impact.
